Akuity Platform is a commercial application delivery service built around Argo CD and Kargo. Its hybrid architecture keeps application reconciliation in workload clusters while Akuity manages the Argo CD control plane. That separates the interface used by teams from the controllers interacting with their Kubernetes resources.
Where it fits
Consider Akuity when you already use Argo CD, or want to, but need a consistent way to operate delivery across several clusters. Kargo adds promotion workflows for moving changes through environments. A useful evaluation follows one application from development to production and includes a failed verification, a blocked promotion and recovery.
The platform is distinct from the upstream projects. Using Argo CD or Kargo does not require buying Akuity, and their licences should not be confused with the commercial service.
What to evaluate
Review agent permissions, network connectivity, component placement and what continues working during a control-plane outage. Test how approvals, promotion policies and rollback fit your release process. Compare those responsibilities with running upstream Argo CD and Kargo yourself, using the architecture documentation and Kargo getting-started guide.
